Namsan, a mountain located in he south of Namsaemun in the heart of the city, is surrounded by Myongdong and Itaewon.

From the Seoul Tower on the Mountain's summit, visitors can take in a panoramic view of the city while enjoying a drink or a meal at the skyline restaurant. Namsan has a botanical garden, public park and library etc.

Namsan Beacon Mound

Taejo, the founder of Chosun Dynasty, established Beacon fire mound on Numsan after he moved to Seoul as capital. The whole beacon from all parts of the country would be collected here, when there was war signal. At that time, fire was used at night and smoke was used in day time.

There was always one beacon on fire, and two if enemy was found, three for enemy accessed boundary, four for enemy crossed boundary, five if there was fight.
